PROF SUBRATA KUMAR
BHAUMIK
In clinical Nephrology, Prof Bhaumik remains strongly attached
to diabetic Nephropathy, hypertension, primary
glomerulonephritis, Multiple mydoma, SLE Nephritis, Pregnancy
associated renal complications, vasculities and interstitial
disease. He is also an expert in managing patients who do not
want dialysis and Kidney transplantation. His recent attention
is gradually shifting into the aspect of preventing the
progression of kidney disease and how to delay the onset of
dialysis by diet and drug modification .
Prof. Bhaumik is a conservative transplant Nephrologists and
is not associated with any illegal unrelated Kidney
transplantation. A large number of post transplant patient are

treatment of post transplant infections.
Prof. Bhaumik has treated over 600 patients of acute renal
failure following snake bite and over 700 patient of
falciperum malaria. Before the recommendation of WHO of
combing two antimalarial drugs, Prof. Bhaumik has saved many
lives by such combination.
Prof. Bhaumik first reported the outbreak of leptospira
infection in Kolkata and his prior experience of treating
hundreds of patients with leptospira ARF in the pineapple
districts of Kerala helped him in saving lives of such
patients.
Despite his brilliant success in the field of Nephrology and
General medicine, Prof. Bhaumik remains a low profile, humble
family man. He likes angling, kite flying, reading books on
economics and astronomy, trekking and cooking. He is not a
member of any club or party and he wants to serve the society
by his own humble way.
He has opportunity of starting successfully the Nephrology and
hemodialysis in cosmopolitan hospital Thiruvanantapuram in
1993 and was very popular amongst the local christian
population. He was successful in upgrading the limping
hemodialysis unit in RKM Seva Pratisthan which is managed by
Hindu monks. Finally he started successfully a similar
Nephrology and dialysis unit in Islamia hospital at a very
affordable rate for the underprivileged patients of Bengal.
Quality patients care at affordable cost remains his motto in
life but he is fully aware to keep himself associated with the
advancement in science and technology. His honest dignified
and transparent practice has incorporated him with a large
number of International and National clinical trial and
Registry.
