Dr. S.K. Bhaumik is currently Professor and Head in the
Department of Nephrology in Ramkrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan
and Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences, Kolkata. He is
a Post-graduate teacher of Medicine and Nephrology under
Calcutta University. He is also a Honorary Consultant in Renal
medicine in R.K. Mission Seva Pratisthan and Senior Consultant
Nephrologist in Islamia Hospital and Life Line Nursing Home,
Kolkata.
In the last 20 years of Nephrology practice he has been
associated with over 1 lakh sessions of hemodialsis, 2000
sessions of peritoneal dialysis (IPD), 36 patients of CAPD and
1800 cases of Kidney biopsy. He implants CAPD catheter
surgically and has world class skill in Kidney biopsy with low
cost truecut needle under simple X-Ray guidance . No case of
major bleed/renal loss /death after biopsy has happened in his
hand either in Native Kidney or in transplanted Kidney so far.
Plasmapheresis and CAVH/CAVDH was popularized in Kolkata under
his leadership and they remain as popular therapeutic option
for in hospital patients in ICU.
